Honestly, we bought our first bottle of The Kraken Black Spiced Rum because we wanted the bottle. On opening, we found that it is a great sipping rum that has a great depth for the young rum. This black strap molasses distillation has an exotic quality to it that comes with any unusual entry into the sipping rum list, and this stands apart from others.
If we had to be disappointed in anything when it comes to The Kraken Black Spiced Rum, it’s the coloring. In the bottle it appears a deep dark color, nearly as black as cola. When poured, the rum is still a deep rich color, but not nearly as black as it appears in the bottle. Not much of a complaint, but worth noting.

It’s a simple matter of marketing, purchase it for the bottle, discover it holds a great sipping rum within. That’s how it got us and to be fair, the rum is a good middle ground sipping rum. One that holds its own for the masses but would be dismissed as ordinary by the master sippers.
