el dorado 12 year

There is a river in Guyana named the Demerara and along its banks grow some of the finest sugarcane in the world. Sadly, this is no indication that the rum produced there is distilled from that cane.

All rum produced in Guyana claim that distinction of Demerara Rums, but El Dorado 12 Year Rum is claimed to be the final distillery standing in the country still producing their rums the old-fashioned way. Taste this rum and see for yourself, this is an exceptional beverage, aged to a mellow smoothness that creeps up on you in all the best possible ways. El Dorado rums are great, but this 12 Year is fantastic.

El Dorado 12 Year Rum : Our Personal Take

After trying so many rums, there was one clear winner when all the factors of flavor and enjoyment were weighed against price point, and that winner was El Dorado 12 Year Rum. While you can easily find a more expensive bottle, and you could find a more luxurious sipping rum, for our palate and for our wallet, we believe you would be hard pressed to find such an enjoyable sipping rum at anywhere near the cost of this bottle.

Some of the sipping rums at this point are cloyingly sweet, others are harsh and dank, but El Dorado 12 Year Rum walks that fine line of being a great sipping rum without teetering too far into the dessert topping category. We picked up a second bottle of El Dorado 12 Year Rum to enjoy at length.

Rum Reviewer’s Final Thoughts

Fine enough of a sipping rum to enjoy neat or over a single ice cube, and affordable enough to mix into your favorite cocktails without feeling like you’re “wasting” the good stuff, El Dorado 12 Year Rum is a perfect bottle that balances the line between sipper and mixer. We enjoyed it as a sipping rum and look forward to adding into our next rum cocktail.
