For as inexpensive as the bottle was, I will admit there were few expectations once we began to sip this rum. However, the flavor of Cruzan Aged Dark rum betrays the ordinary bottling and the unassuming price point so much so that we were surprised how fine of a sipping rum came from this pour. When the bottle claims it is “aged rum” they aren’t misdirecting us, the rum is aged, just blended with younger ages between two and four years.
The strong nose, vibrant palate, and punch finish all make for a great sipping rum and an excellent mixer if you are looking for a single bottle to serve both purposes. Splurging for the pricey bottles is all well and good, but sometimes a bottle in the lower price range is well worth the investigation.
