We always want to discover new rums and bring them into our fold, especially the under-rated inexpensive rums that are so often overlooked. Calypso Gold Rum is strong on the alcohol burn and you will taste it beyond the nose, it follows into the glass and even into a cocktail. For some this is the desire however we still taste that alcohol fire long after we want it to go away.
A good sipping rum shouldn’t make you attempt to mask the flavor and while we enjoyed the glass of Calypso Gold Rum we immediately tried it in mixes and cocktails. Even behind those distracting additions, we could taste that strong burn. As a mixer we’d urge caution, as a sipper, we’d pass.
