In 1824, a German doctor Johann Siegart was working on a medicine that would increase the appetite of his soldiers and would also enhance their digestive wellbeing. He eventually made a concoction of herbs, called “Amargo Aromatico”. Today this spirit is famous as Angostura 1824 12-Year Rum. Dr. Siegart established the ‘House of Angostura’ in Venezuela. Later in 1876, he moved the House of Angostura to Trinidad and started the production of rum in the heart of the Caribbean.

Angostura 1824 12-Year Rum is a hand kegged premium rum distilled from molasses. The rum is matured for good twelve years in charred, American oak casks. The rum gets matured in these barrels for a good 12 years. At first, it is blended and then re-kegged in a bourbon cask. It gives a creamy vanilla aroma with honey and molasses palate. 

The rum is of copper or bronze in color. It has an appealing dark shade that resembles the color of a slightly tarnished coin. The rum has a nice woody aroma and balanced taste of vanilla and spices.
